AFAIK that’s already the deal. So the proposal is a improvement of the deal. Also don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

He’s probably referencing that influencers of all platforms are paid to push propaganda to their followers by various state actors.

I hope they fix the Interface someday, the way that categories are hidden behind 5 clicks of a horizontal scroll is unintuitive and confusing for new users

Nice, Pop has a great track record, good stuff

Nice, this could especially be important in the Linux Mobile space for things like https://windy.com and https://web.pulsepoint.org and the scanner radio and other similar websites

Anything with Bluetooth is a ID vector.

And since Apple AirTag tech is a thing there are other ID capabilities.

Maybe a Faraday bag to cut all radio.

I hope the followup is named “Wilson”

This level of hubris is comical.

US: I love the Free Market.jpg

China: I love the Free Market.jpg But not IP.gif No more Binary Blobs and sketchy Tech.png

US: NuoOOOooOo u can’t just use tech that aligns with your beliefs.jpg

Me: Whoever does open hardware & source gets my dollar & vote.

Barf, we’re not doing it for money. We’re doing it for a shitload of moneyyyy

So the flip side of 501©(3) is that all the donors information is shared with the IRS instead of remaining private.

So people are starting to understand Bluetooth is a weapon? Cool beans.

Partially yes, the other concern would be who does the DNS lookups? In my opinion there should be no DNS monopoly so there is no single point of failure if captured.

The entire concept of DNS is predicated on decentralization too.

The echo chamber is strong. I am a big popularizer of that phrase for at least 2 years now. Agreed. Still the questions had to be asked to keep the concern alive.

Those OSX screenshots really are selling me on this being a FOSS thing I could get behind /s NOT!!

How is Mozilla literally not controlled opposition? Their main source of income used to be Google.

How are they not just a antitrust prop so Google doesn’t get split up by the EU.

So far my claims are:

  1. Linux is not Unix

  2. Linux is not “based” on Unix

I’ve proven both claims using respected sources.

From your reading, the missing clarification you are looking for is “POSIX”. Most people don’t know what POSIX is, that’s why it reads “Unix-Like” for general audiences. If Unix didn’t exist another synonym would supplement.

Back to my original point – the OP, a layman, probably in good faith and though a honest misunderstanding, repeated a false claim that was resolved in a International 10+ year lawsuit in 2007.

It’s literally mal-information. But hey in sure your elders think that a Xbox, PS5 and Computer are all “Nintendo’s or whatever”.

I think that falls under “Burnout Management”

There are thousands of you and me who work around the clock to prevent the internet from blowing up all the time.

A lot of people can’t handel the constant stress, terrible hours, it takes a toll on each of us.

Softening responses, good for sure, but the demands put on the pioneers of tech, much respect – we wouldn’t be where we are without them in spite of their very real human limitations. Much props for their daily self sacrifice.

IIUC ‘in the heart of every cynic lies a disappointed idealist’, in any case the relation between the two is worth keeping an eye out for

Imagine Apple making you agree to not use iTunes to make nuclear weapons… oh wait…

I applaud your skepticism, though I do feel that having the source open does help make that harder.

Every time I see tinfoil references I often wonder if people realize the relation to tinfoil and blocking radiation or alpha particles, as they come in different sizes.

Hell people wear leaded vests at the dentist to block radiation from oral xrays.

Should we* start another silly club, Lead+Tinfoil? We all talk shit on the web but it seems like the majority is always the dumb masses getting scammed and duped and the weird guy in the corner gets ahead.

It’s not Unix-based either.

On August 10, 2007, a federal district court judge in SCO v. Novell ruled on summary judgment that Novell, not the SCO Group, was the rightful owner of the copyrights covering the Unix operating system. […] After the ruling, Novell announced they had no interest in suing people over Unix and stated “We don’t believe there is Unix in Linux”
